The Knight Fork (Cat Pounce)
A single piece attacks two or more enemy pieces simultaneously. Because the Knight jumps in an L-shape over obstacles, its fork cannot be blocked—the attacked player must move their King or sacrifice the piece.
Absolute & Relative Pins (Laser Stare)
Paralyzes an enemy defender in place. In an Absolute Pin against the King, moving the pinned piece is strictly illegal. In a Relative Pin, moving the piece loses the Queen or Rook resting behind it.
The Skewer (Claw Swipe Through)
An inverted pin: a valuable piece (King or Queen) is attacked on a line and forced to step aside, allowing you to capture the vulnerable piece hiding directly behind it.
Back-Rank Mate (Cardboard Box Trap)
Delivering checkmate along the enemy 8th rank because the defending King is trapped behind its own shield of unmoved pawns with no escape square ("Luft").
Cat Distractions & Decoys (Yarn Ball Gambit)
Luring or deflecting a critical defender away from protecting a key square or King through a compelling piece sacrifice, destroying their defense.
Discovered Attacks (Ambush from Shadows)
Moving one piece out of the way to unmask a devastating ambush from a hidden Bishop, Rook, or Queen behind it. If the moving piece delivers check, the unmasked attack is unstoppable.
